Hello everyone! Hope you’re having a nice Tuesday so far:) We are going to be talking about summer hazards in June, but i wanted to touch on that now since there was an incident someone came to me with over the weekend. Right now it’s too hot to take your dogs on a walk or hike unless it’s around 5 am. Even if the temperatures aren’t that bad right now the ground still bakes in the sun all day making it about 20 degrees hotter or more. This can cause pad burns which if severe enough can cause the entire pad to rip off. This is excruciatingly painful for a dog and requires immediate, and much medical attention. Also remember that your dog is wearing a fur coat. Even if they are short haired they still don’t sweat and can over heat very quickly. So if you want to have an outdoor activity with your fur babies make sure it’s at their safety. Happy Tuesday!

Water Safety

Does your pet know how to swim? If you aren’t sure an easy way to see is to bring your pet in the pool with you, while you’re supervising see how they react in the water. It’s important to make sure they know where an exit is (the steps for example) and that they don’t panic in the water. Drownings are severely tragic, we see so many pool accidents in the summer with kids, but pets are affected too. Some animals don’t naturally swim. So if your pet doesn’t know how to swim or completely panics in water putting up a pool fence or a barricade so they can’t accidentally fall in is highly recommended. Swimming is fun, let’s help keep it that way:) Be safe out there! Happy Tuesday!

Do you have a pool? If so make sure that your pet knows how to swim. Like children, pets can be at just as much risk near the water for drowning. It’s a myth that all dogs can swim. Prevent a tragedy and put your pets in the pool, make sure they can swim and find an exit in the event that they fall in. Showing them where the steps are is very important and can save a life. There are lots of dogs that love water, but some fear it and will panic, let’s make sure this summer is happy and safe. Happy Thursday!
